The Shannon Development mission statement reads:
"To initiate, participate in and support integrated development that will achieve sustained economic growth in and throughout the Shannon Region."

The mission statement underpins Shannon Development’s further ambitions for the Region. The various economic shocks which have impacted on the world economy in recent years have generated new job creation challenges in Ireland. Shannon Development’s endeavours towards job creation have been successfully maintained in the face of a very adverse economic environment over the years. Demographic factors have led to rapid growth in the labour pool in the face of depressed international markets and the changing strategies of international companies. Meanwhile, there has been a continuing decline in agricultural employment with displaced workers seeking alternative work in industry and services. Shannon Development is now an integrated development company responsible for:

Developing and strengthening the indigenous industry sector in the Shannon Region which includes building up a venture capital culture and creating awareness of the benefits accruing from the Information Society.

Developing Shannon Free Zone and its associated World Aviation Park as a location for international investment in manufacturing and international services.

Managing and developing the National Technological Park in Limerick.

Tourism development in the Shannon Region.

Delivering ERDF funding (European Regional Development Fund) to support new tourism product development.

Managing commercial tourism businesses, e.g. castle banquets and day visitor attractions, through a subsidiary company - Shannon Heritage.

In conjunction with other agencies, promoting the Shannon Estuary as an international tourism and industrial location.

Stimulating development at rural and local levels.
